What are the most frequently encountered challenges in developing countries in the management of pediatric cases in humanitarian settings?
Besides that infectious and tropical diseases kill children in these countries and in some African countries. there are also birth defects.
The biggest challenge is that sick children arrive in hospital in serious condition, sometimes on the verge of death. Often they present several problems simultaneously, for example they suffer from malnutrition and acute pneumonia, malaria or sickle cell disease.
In this kind of situation, our Foundation, through its hospital structure, does laboratory examinations and therefore a complete assessment in order to detect opportunistic pathologies before surgery, sometimes it can be difficult to give them an adapted treatment due to lack of financial means because of other medical specialists are asking exorbitant amounts for certain cases.
Malaria is easily detected, and is treated with very specific drugs. But other infections are often detected by specialized medical biology analysis laboratories for infectious diseases of P2 or P3 levels.
It is a real challenge to care for children from mostly poor families. To cover certain medical costs, we appeal to the generosity of certain health professionals at the local and international level.
